St.Kagwa Bushenyi High School old student graduates with a PhD at Makerere University

As thousands thronged the gates of Makerere University on 23^rd May 2022 for the 72^nd graduation ceremony at Uganda’s premier university, it was another great moment for St.Kagwa Bushenyi High School Old Boys’ Association (SKOBA). Their own, Dr. Agaba Bekiita Bosco, was among the graduands for the highest academic title, a PhD. Dr.Agaba had his research on a topic “Molecular Epidemiological Surveillance of pfhrp2 and pfhrp3 Gene Deletions in Plasmodium falciparum Parasite Populations in Uganda” and now joins the list of PhD holders and professors that St.Kagwa boasts of. Prior to this PhD, he had done his MPH and MSC in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr.Agaba is an Epidemiologist at National Disease Control Department in the Ministry of Health and is involved in research on Malaria. He also supports the Global Fund and USAID projects in Uganda. His work has led to the formulation of the new Malaria policy in Uganda and has just attracted a new grant of $1m to develop surveillance systems for Malaria in Africa. He has done quite a number of research projects on the same and has over 35 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals.

Asked for a comment, the President SKOBA, Mugizi Rwabiita Felix said that it is a remarkable achievement not only to Dr.Agaba and family but also the school. It means that St.Kagwa BHS students and alumni have someone to look up to for inspiration and mentorship. He added that it is even more fulfilling, knowing that Agaba is an active member of the alumni association. The Headteacher Mr.Possy Kanaga called on old students of Agaba’s calibre to always visit and mentor the boys. Agaba was so much thankful to the fellow old students for the support and appreciated the school for the solid foundation that made it possible for him to get here.

He was at St.Kagwa BHS from 1992 to 1995 and notes that they passed their examinations very well under the headship of Mr.Tibanyendera Bazilio. While there, he was a resident of Libya Room 13 and later a serious Footballer and Assistant Games Captain. One can describe him as an all-round student of the time. Congratulations Dr.Agaba Bosco and continue the hard work that you imbibed from St.Kagwa BHS. We labour for our future.
